We moved from a small city home in Chicago to a large suburban home in Texas and needed help decorating our entire home. We were a bit overwhelmed on how to decorate this larger home then we had in Chicago. While we wanted it to look good, we didn't want our home to have a sterile "everything matches perfectly" feel. A friend referred us to Casey Hall, Shannon Gornell, and Cara Hubbell with Lonesome Dove Design. These three women transformed our home, and we love every room. It is not only beautiful, and comfortable, but most importantly since they incorporated existing furniture and items along with new ones, it feels like our home and represents our family's tastes and style.
Casey and her team came over for the first meeting and took time to get to know us and our style. They "shopped" in our home. By "shopped" I mean they looked for things they could re-purpose and learned what my husband and I prefer. For example, we had an old dresser in our master bedroom that we wanted to replace. Lonesome dove found a new place for it. With some effort from a local carpenter the dresser was transformed into an amazing living room credenza. Additionally, we wanted to go slowly and decorate a few rooms at a time, and they accommodated us.
We started with the family room and living room and the Lonesome Dove Design team did everything from recommending paint colors, to shopping for us, to encouraging us to shop for things we love, to bringing fabric samples to our house and helping us measure and order the furniture we needed. They were even here when the furniture was delivered. Again, they captured our eclectic mix and match style perfectly. In addition to some new items, they also used existing items we already owned and love. That has brought so much meaning to every room in our home.
Later that year, I used them for a father's day surprise for my husband. I had them decorate his office. This was a short project of decorating shelves and making it really meaningful for him. This was literally only a half day project, and it captured his interests and story completely. They did such a great job he was teary when he saw how we had incorporated various pictures and items from his life.
After a year of living in our space we finally decided to decorate our bedroom. We really wanted our home to be comfortable for our children and guests and thought we really only use the bedroom to sleep. Now that it is complete our bedroom brings me joy each time I walk into the room. For our bedroom, the lonesome dove team once again asked me about my vision and then made it even better than I could have imagined. One idea I had for our room was a wall of pictures that are meaningful to us. I love photography and love to take pictures of my family. So, we wanted a wall of photos that were just special for us, and were stylish as well. This wall of family photos is my favorite space in our home. When we could not find bedding I really loved, we went to a fabric store in Dallas, and they helped me to pick some out. We found beautiful fabric for bedding, curtains, and pillows. Casey and her team pay so much attention to each detail that goes into a room. With four children, our bedroom is such a wonderful retreat and my husband and I just love relaxing in the sitting area of the room. We now live in our bedroom versus just having it be the place where we sleep.
Another aspect I love about the Lonesome Dove Design team is their focus on shopping locally. They shop for items that are on sale, and truely believe in re-purposing existing furniture. While they encourage you to buy things you love, they incorporate what you have and create spaces that are beautiful yet practical and usable. They can take your vision and put it together piece by piece, and they are professional and caring. I completely trust their judgement and consider their efforts a blessing to me and our family. If you are looking to update a room or your entire home, you ought to consider Lonesome Dove
